It's hard!

Source: Twitter

From a St Davids Diocesan press release: The Bishop of St Davids, Joanna Penberthy, is to take part in a BBC Wales TV debate on gender equality.

Previewed on Twitter the bishop kicks off with a great deal of satisfaction in that she is the 129th successor to St David and 128 of them have been men. That in itself should tell her something but note the hash tags: #equality and #gender equality. Theology has no place in the Church in Wales today. Hence the declining numbers.

The bishop could also reflect on Acts 6. The Apostles said: Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.

The faith of the Church is not something to be tampered with. If the bishop of St Davids finds it hard, it is of her own choosing. Obedience to the faith is about theology, not secular notions of gender equality.

  1. Bishop Penberthy has also told BBC Wales that, horror of horrors, some people are refusing to receive communion at celebrations of the Eucharist at which she presides.

Welcome to the Church of God, Joanna, which is rather larger than your Liberal protestant bubble, where everyone has bought into the Anglo-American world view that says 'my needs and my experience take precedence above all else.' The fact that the majority of the world's Christians do not see the world in the same way that you do, is a point worth pondering. Consenting to be consecrated a 'bishop' has put you rather at odds with the Christian world beyond St Davids Diocese, so stop being surprised, shocked, or whatever else it is you are when people have difficulty accepting the validity of your ministry.

    1. Good to hear that people are standing up for their beliefs.
I have never accepted Communion from a priestess and never will.
If the Bishopette in the West doesn't like it, to quote His --Darkness, "tough"

  2. Having just watched the hour on BBC1 Wales and listened to the comments of the bishop of St Davids she still will not or accept the fact that many bible christians believe she is not a bishop or priest and never will be in their eyes.

  3. I know it must feel hard for Joanna but my take on it that she was preferred above at least equally gifted more experienced Welsh speaking men of good character on the basis of being female. She should reflect on that and stop being a victim.
